Chicago Mercantile Exchange

In the 1990s, the CME began to embrace electronic trading, introducing the Globex electronic trading platform in 1992. This platform allowed traders to execute trades electronically, bypassing the traditional open outcry system. The Globex platform quickly became popular, and it enabled the CME to expand its trading hours and attract traders from around the world.

In 2007, the CME merged with the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT), another major futures exchange in the United States. The merger created the world's largest futures exchange, allowing the combined exchange to offer an even wider range of products and services to traders and investors.

In the years since the merger with CBOT, the CME has continued to innovate and grow. The exchange has introduced new products and services, such as bitcoin futures and micro e-mini futures contracts, and it has expanded its global reach through partnerships and acquisitions.

Today, the CME remains one of the most important exchanges in the world, offering a range of futures and options contracts on commodities, currencies, stock indices, and other financial instruments.
