Masdar City, United Arab Emirates, aims to be a zero-carbon zero-waste city and powered only by renewable energy, based on urban sustainable design. Planners have used effective planning methods to reduce energy consumption by building city walls and having no streets, with buildings located close together. There are no cars in the city and driverless electric vehicles are used for transportation underground, with a light rail system above ground. There are no light switches, or water taps, as everything is controlled by movement sensors. |
